Fouriesburg Spring Fair 2010

Date:  Saturday, 4 September 2010

Venue:  Fouriesburg and surrounds, South Africa

In celebration of the arrival of spring and the promise of warmer weather, Fouriesburg (only 10km from the Caledonspoort Border Post into Lesotho) is hosting their annual spring fair on the first Saturday of September.

This year, local artists and crafters are creating signage from purely recycled materials, collected by the community. The event will begin with a free 5km fun walk, and is planned to culminate in an evening performance by two of South Africa’s top stand-up comedians: Mel Miller and Al Prodgers.

The fair has a strong emphasis on agriculture, tractor rides through the cherry orchards in blossom, organic garlic and worm casting farm tours, fresh farm milk and many other scrumptious organic products.  Outdoor adventures include 4×4 routes, horse riding, quad biking, an equestrian endurance event to watch, music, photography, fine arts (including walks to San paintings and exhibitions by local and national artists) & of course local crafts. No matter what your taste, there will be fun for the entire family.

In the spirit of South Africa’s successful hosting of the World Cup Soccer 2010, children from the local farms and township will participate in an inter-schools soccer competition – Ayoba!  While at the Fouriesburg Intermediate School, their Spring artwork will be on display in the Town Hall, for all those keen to see our budding young artist’s creations.
