The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) confirmed Lesotho is the official host country for the 2022 African Youth Games.
“One Voice: One Africa: Sport Speaks” was the slogan of choice in Lesotho’s bid which will take place in capital city Maseru. The announcement took place before the beginning of the 3rd African Youth Games which started on the 18th of July.
The African Youth Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years to complement the current All-Africa Games. The first games was hosted by Rabat, Morocco. This international sportive event has been created by Lassana Palenfo, current director of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa. The idea came in 2006, but the very first African Youth Games only occurred in 2010.
The 2nd African Youth Games took place in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital City from 22 to 31 May 2014.
The African Youth Games targets the 14 to 18 age group, and is thought to contribute to the development of African sport and to the growth of Olympic values, as well as act as a trial run for the Olympic Games.
