The North Face South Africa continues to develop its focus on the local trail running market by announcing its partnership with the Lesotho Ultra Trail.
As the 2013 trail running season slowly draws to a close, the event has remained firmly in the sights of many of the country’s top athletes, highlighting all the future prospects of a race that is sure to be recognized as one of Africa’s premier outings in years to come.
“Having spurred tremendous excitement and interest amongst the local and international running community throughout the year, the allure of the Maluti Mountains remains a mysterious running prospect, both for top athletes and aspirant runners alike,” comments The North Face marketing manager James Hallett. “This is something that completely emulates the brand’s “Never Stop Exploring” philosophy, and to be a part of this event is not only a privilege but also a fantastic opportunity to offer our support to the growth and exciting development of the sport here in southern Africa.”
Top runners from South Africa and Canada, including local The North Face athletes Robyn Kime and husband and wife duo Iain and Su Don Wauchope, will descend upon the 5-star Maliba Lodge in the Tsehlanyane National Park come 30th November, to toe the start line of this unique 55km, high-altitude challenge.
“The very first time I climbed from Maliba Lodge to the top of the Maluti Mountains I knew that the Lesotho Ultra Trail was going to be something special,” muses race director Andrew Booth. “The entrants seemed to realise it as well as they snapped up the entries in just 15 days after the event was launched.”
As The North Face remains poised to relaunch in southern Africa, identifying strategic event sponsorships remains a focus for 2014.
“The North Face understood our creation” continues Booth, “and their recent decision to come on board as a race partner excites us tremendously. We look forward to building our relationship with the brand over the inaugural event which will hopefully lead to even more in 2014.”
