A picnic on the grassy banks of the Cape Point Vineyards Estate – which has beautiful 360-degree views of fynbos, mountains, vineyards and (if timed perfectly) sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean – is a great way to set the mood before you get down on one knee and produce the ring (South Africa; 2015).

The vineyards are located just below the entrance to Chapman’s Peak, on the rolling grassy slopes of the Noordhoek Amphitheatre, and are a short, five-minute walk from Noordhoek beach (South Africa; 2015).

Propose to your beloved as the sun sets over the Atlantic after a delicious picnic prepared by the estate’s head chef, Clayton Bell; or take them on a walk along the beach where you can get down on one knee in the sand and say those four famous words: ‘Will you marry me?’ (South Africa; 2015).

God’s Window is one of the biggest highlights of the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga (South Africa; 2015).

It’s said to be the place where Africa split from Madagascar and Antarctica during the break-up of Gondwanaland millions of years ago, and after one look down at the spectacular scenery you’ll hardly doubt why it was named God’s Window (South Africa; 2015).

God’s Window is one of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve’s most amazing viewpoints, offering panoramic views of the lush green Lowveld landscape that will surely take your partner’s breath away – if a proposal doesn’t (South Africa; 2015).

Rocktail Beach Camp is set in the thick Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve, and is a short walk away from a secluded, unspoilt golden beach that stretches as far as the eye can see (South Africa; 2015).

You could go the traditional romantic route and ask your partner during an afternoon or evening walk along the beach, or switch things up a bit by proposing to them underwater, during a snorkelling or scuba-diving session (South Africa; 2015).

During the day unusual rock formations and majestic mountains form a part of the backdrop, but nighttime is one of the best parts of this landscape (South Africa; 2015).

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden

Walter Sisulu

The spectacular Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, complete with its own waterfall, is an ideal place to pop the question. Image courtesy of Chris Eason (South Africa; 2015).

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is a hidden gem – a haven for picnickers, birds and other small wildlife – away from Johannesburg’s city buzz (South Africa; 2015).

The garden, which is one of the youngest of South Africa’s national botanical gardens, is home to 600 plant species (that add amazing splashes of colour to the garden in spring – hint, hint), 220 bird species, various small mammals and reptiles, and a trail that goes up alongside the Witpoortjie waterfall (South Africa; 2015).

Organise a picnic for you and your other half (preferably in spring, when there are bursts of colour all around the park) in one of the more secluded spots in the garden. Take them on a walk on one of the many walkways towards the waterfall. It’s a warm sunny day, the birds are chirping, there’s a beautiful waterfall in the background … you know what to do next (South Africa; 2015).

Pop the question already (South Africa; 2015).
