Lesotho Sky is a 500km team Expedition Mountain Bike Stage Race in Lesotho. With 14000m of climbing in the “Mountain Kingdom” over 6 days, this event will blow your mind and your legs…Lesotho sky logoThe Lesotho Sky Event 2011 is the first-ever 6-day Cross-Country MTB event, which takes place in the so-called Mountain Kingdom. This constitutes the launch of the annual Lesotho Sky Event and aspires to be a not-to-be-missed event on the local and international MTB calendar.

Lesotho is an independent state entirely surrounded by South Africa and is easy to reach in only a few hours by car from Johannesburg. Only 40 riders or 20 teams are selected on an application/invitation basis for this special event. Among them are 5 team entries from Lesotho. The route consists of multiple stages, entirely off road on dirt roads and trails through the Maluti mountain range in the western highlands of the country. The geographic conditions are ideal to attract competitive athletes. Ranging from 1400m to 3482m above sea level, Lesotho is a suitable location for altitude training. After many successful years of tours and riding in Lesotho we are now launching the first event of this kind.

Lesotho sky ridersSponsors are given the unique opportunity to be part of a world-class event that promotes mountain biking in the mainly untouched terrain of Lesotho, as well as extend their corporate social responsibility through actively engaging in community projects. We are supporting the Ha Matela Youth Centre with bicycles and gear as well as provide funds for learning equipment such as books, laptops and magazines.

The first day (Sunday, 13th November) is a public event – the Morija Mountain Bike Challenge – which goes into its second year and is jointly organised by the Lesotho Cycling Association and Sky Events. Anybody is welcome to join the fun and chose between 10km, 20km or a 65km route. Sign-up happens on the day from 8:30am, the start is at 10:00am at the Mophato oa Morija Youth & Conference Centre.
